Stuff White People Like (Long But Read It All)

A friend of mine on facebook posted this up and I happened to read it. At first I was thinking, "Are you kidding me!?" This site's sole purpose is to point out how ignorant and stupid and yadda yadda "white people" are. Yes, it can be done in a playful humor and even be called satire. But only ignorant people assume that is is totally done out of fun and games. There are definitely true feelings about these posts behind the person and people reading it. I'm not personally offended by the posts....I just find it so incredibly (for lack of a better word) predictable how someone can put a "what white people like" and say all this crap about "white people" as if they are the only ones who enjoy these things...and if someone put up a "what black people like" and loaded it up with things like fried chicken, beer, bling, wellfare, old cadillacs, baggy clothes, etc... that site would be deemed as racists by all standards in a second and you know it would. with that being said...i think both sites are stupid, pointless and a waste of time.

Here are just a few posts that I read when I was searching the site. Granted, some made me chuckle but most are so ignorantly stated that it makes me sad.

This one apparently "Kanye West" posted on his blog. I swear, this guy gives me more and more reason to hate him with every word that comes out of his mouth.

"In general, white people love situations where they can’t lose. While this does account for the majority of their situations, perhaps the safest bet a white person can make is to buy a house in an up-and-coming neighborhood.

White people like to live in these neighborhoods because they get credibility and respect from other white people for living in a more “authentic” neighborhood where they are exposed to “true culture” every day. So whenever their friends mention their home in the suburbs or richer urban area, these people can say “oh, it’s so boring out there, so fake. In our neighborhood, things are just more real.” This superiority is important as white people jockey for position in their circle of friends.

They are like a modern day Lewis and Clark, except instead of searching for the ocean, they are searching for old properties to renovate.

In a few years, if more white people start moving in, these initial trailblazers will sell their property for triple what they paid and move into an ultramodern home.

Credibility or money, they can’t lose!

When one of these white people tell you where they live, you should say “whoa, it’s pretty rough down there. I don’t think I could live there.” This will make them feel even better about their credibility and status as neighborhood pioneers."

"In most situations, white people are very comforted by seeing their own kind. However, when they are eating at a new ethnic restaurant or traveling to a foreign nation, nothing spoils their fun more than seeing another white person. Many white people will look into the window of an ethnic restaurant to see if there are other white people in there."

*some responses to the site:

"White people like to sugar coat negative thoughts, experiences, and feelings. Men must not express feelings. Sex is sort of beat around the bush and operates under some form of abstract oppression. Drink milk and then smell like it. Are focused on the outside and materiality. Will usually go along with what an employer wants good or bad. They like to feel like they are in control, nosy, questioning the obvious"

"I have topic for yo:. Buying clothing with the store’s name plastered all over it (Abercrombie, American Eagle, Aeropostale, The Gap, etc).

White people buy clothing from those stores because those stores are considered “cool” (ie expensive). That’s why they make sure to buy clothing with the store’s name on it. They want to advertise that they shop at those stores, and are therefore “cool.”"

*yes, because "black" people dont do the exact same thing....

For all you people who study abroad, be sure to check out be sure to check out #72 (second most recent post) to find out what your real reasons for studying abroad are and how stupid you are. But only if you're white, if you're black and study abroad, I'm sure you have good reason.

What is wrong with people, white, black, asain, whatever, who cares?

the birth and death of the day

as my last post discussed, i plan on making changes in the way i live.

i started that today.

it consisted of a random drive for isolated places. i wanted to take pictures. i wanted an adventure.
today i broke the law. no i didnt steal something or flash the locals. i "trespassed".
during my search for adventure i came across some old concrete silos that are a part of some sort of factory along a busy road. i parked my car behind a shed and got out and started exploring. taryn was with me so i had someone to help document the activities. once we finished there i noticed a line of boxcars on a train-track much farther back. the trampled down field and no trespassing sign was the only thing between us and those wonderful metal boxes on wheels.

instead of the usual craig, which would have consisted of thinking "no, its kinda risky...what if someone sees us...we're trespassing" i remembered new outlook on life and decided to go for it. so, camera in hand we booked it across the field and jumped the muddy filled ditch and explored the boxcars. it was fun. exciting. heartpounding. living.

however, after we saw the second truck pull into the nearby lot and circle around....we freaked and ran for the car.

*in the heat of the moment. this was when i saw the truck.

it was a good day. i plan on doing more things like this. not so much with breaking the law...but just being more daring and adventurous. it's much more exciting than always "playing it safe"

this must be it. welcome to the new year.

seeing as its the new year, i suppose its fitting to make some resolutions for this fresh start. i would actually like to hear from people who had new resolutions for the year 2007 and if you actually kept those resolutions. something tells me i won't hear from too many people.

so no, i don't have any great monuments i intend to reach for this year. i don't have any "i will stop eating this" or "i will stop doing this" phrases to tell. instead i will just say that i hope to have a steady job. i will do what i can to make that happen. who knows maybe even have my coffee shop started. i hope to be in a new place with new adventures, new friends, new loves and new beginnings. i honestly don't want a lot out of life...at least a lot that money could buy. although, if i had money....i would most definitely be traveling more.

i plan on documenting a lot more of my life this year. i spent a good chunk of money on a new camcorder for that very purpose. i will be taking more pictures....much more. i will be taking advantage of opportunities that should come up that i would normally pass on. i will take more risks. i will try to go on at least one random adventure each month (with or without someone). i will go thrifting at least once every week; because there are always new treasures to be found. i will eat out less. laugh more. make much more art. i will talk to God more and in turn i will also listen. i will learn to love more. i guess you could call those my "resolutions" they seem pretty simple to me.

i will live more.

*i also started a new blog space. this one seems more promising...its very intriguing to me. most of the posts will include photos and or videos for your wonderful eyes. i encourage you to join in on this little bit of happiness with me.
